MALMESBURY were defeated in a battle of two solid forward packs at Minchinhampton Common on Saturday.
Simon Carter scored the first points of the afternoon for the visitors, picking up a supporting pass and racing 40 metres to go over wide of the posts, before Steve Brady extended their lead to ten points following a trademark run.
Both tries went unconverted and Hames replied for the hosts to reduce Malmesbury's half time lead to five points.
The Minchinhampton forwards applied the pressure in the opening period of the second half and they were rewarded when first Goodwin and then Ian Natter breached the visitors' defence. Harris and Evans converted the tries to put the hosts in command.
Malmesbury reduced the gap to two points when Adam Twidell and Brady combined to set up Ian Gould for a try. Brady had little trouble in converting, but Allan Halling replied quickly for the hosts with a converted try to restore the Minchinhampton lead.
