BOX Highlands Primary School in Rudloe is celebrating its glowing report from Ofsted.

The inspection earlier this term described the quality of teaching and the curriculum as good.

The behaviour and attitude of the students was also praised. "Pupils enjoy lessons and have positive attitudes towards learning and school," said the report.

Relationships between children and staff were also identified as strong. "The teachers know what the children are achieving and match their steps in learning effectively."

Headteacher, Mike Plummer said: "We're extremely pleased with the report, particularly the overwhelming support we've had from parents, and the very positive comments they've made.

"The report sets an agenda enabling us to move forward with confidence."

Of the few issues identified for improvement, overspending and teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are already being addressed. The school has a large number of Services children, and the high turnover makes financial management difficult. Mr Plummer said: "We've been working with the LEA who have been very supportive and understanding. We have a budgeting plan in place and are recovering well."

Local companies have given the 177-pupil school four computers as part of a bid to improve the standard of ICT at key stage two.

Chair of governors Margaret Rousell said: "The governors and I are delighted with the positive Ofsted report and we recognise that it is due to the efforts made by the whole school staff. It is due to their professionalism and caring attitude that the children make such good progress."

The school was last inspected in 1997, and the picture since then has been one of steady improvement. The standard of teaching in the foundation stage and in years five and six is particularly good.
