SPECIAL effort was rewarded at a presentation evening at Matravers School, Westbury.

Pupils received trophies for excellence in curriculum subjects, and a review of the year highlighted the school's achievements, which included video footage and live performances from pupils.

Parents, teachers and the Bishop of Ramsbury, the Rt Rev Peter Hullah, attended the ceremony.

Headteacher Nigel Gilhespy said: "We are here to thank everyone who has played a part in the life of the school over the past year and to celebrate the achievements of everyone.

"That includes staff, parents, governors, members of the community here in Westbury and, not forgetting of course, the most important people, the students themselves, who once again have much to be proud of."

Some of last year's milestones were celebrated, including the granting of arts college status, the consolidation of the sixth form, the best-ever two-year period of examination results and the sponsored walk and exchange trip.

Mr Gilhespy said: "All of this has enriched our lives greatly. So we celebrate the wonderful diversity of the school and what it offers, not only to the students, but to the community as well."
