PICTURE the scene: the hall is packed to capacity, a fair-sized queue outside on a not-too-warm night, some having been waiting for 20 minutes, inside a queue of almost equal length. The tombola had run out of prizes, raffle tickets had run out, the starting time of the event put back, the organisers running around with no idea what to do next and unable to make a decision. Then, inspiration: open the exit doors, enter more tables and chairs, blocking the exit and in all probability contravening fire regulations.
Where was this chaotic scene? At the Civic Hall, Trowbridge, at the Grand Bingo on November 27.
We can only hope that should the event be held next year, the organisers will have got their act together, but I won't hold my breath.
