I was astonished to read RO Mudge's letter in the Wiltshire Times last Friday which bemoaned the lack of a "decent theatre" in Trowbridge.

As the director of the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge I would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who may still be unaware of the existence of the theatre.

Do please come and see the excellent national and international professional touring companies that regularly perform in Trowbridge. Come and listen to the first class folk music on offer and the monthly professional children's shows.

This season, over 40 performances are scheduled, including renditions of Gogol, Shakespeare, Orwell, Lorca and Bill Bryson.

The Wiltshire Times regularly prints excellent reviews of the Arc's activities: in the November 16 edition, a glowing review of The Girl Who Cut Flowers sat side by side with a less flattering review of an event at Bath Theatre Royal.

While I concur that 'Trowbridge county town of Wiltshire' may not quite ring true, it is certainly not for want of a quality theatre venue.

If anyone is under this misapprehension please ring the box office on (01225) 756376 where we will offer you a complimentary ticket to allow you to make your own judgement as to whether Trowbridge does possess "a decent theatre"!

Deryck Newland,

Arc Theatre Director,

College Road,

Trowbridge.
