A TAKEAWAY restaurant employee was branded a terrorist by a drunken youth, a court heard.

Magistrates in Trowbridge fined Geoffrey Chislett, 18, of King Street, £85 for being drunk and disorderly and possessing cannabis when he appeared in court.

Chislett, who has been receiving treatment for an alcohol addiction problem, was witnessed calling an employee "a terrorist" in a Melksham centre kebab shop.

Richard Thomas, prosecuting, described how Chislett had been terrorising the employee, who worked at the kebab shop in Bank Street.

Police officers attending the disturbance said they found him yelling at the employee and trying to start a fight, repeatedly yelling, "What is your problem?"

Mr Thomas said Chislett was one of seven youths hanging around outside the shop but had refused to move on, despite being asked to by the police.

He was then arrested and taken to Melksham police station where he was found to be in possession of a small piece of cannabis.

John Elliott, defending, told the court that Chislett had drunk a quarter bottle of vodka during the day and more pints of beer in the evening.

Mr Elliott said his client was initially protesting about the state of a burger served up by the kebab shop employee.

"He later apologised to the custody sergeant and officers present at the time for his bad language and abuse.

"His father has recently moved to Torquay and Mr Chislett will be joining him after Christmas," Mr Elliott said.

Magistrates ordered Chislett to pay an £85 fine and £55 towards prosecution costs.
