Please spare me from Nimbys who say that they support renewable energy schemes as long as the development doesn't take place vaguely near them.
First of all we had BLOT, which objected to a proposed wood-burning power station next to the A419 road about one mile from Cricklade and who succeeded in scuppering the plan.
Now we have a new group calling themselves Vale Environmental Concerns (Evening Advertiser, November 28), who are trying to undermine plans to build five wind turbines on an old airfield at Westmill Farm next to the A420 road near Watchfield.
The latest fuss is about a planning application to use longer rotor blades which would add 5m to the overall height of the turbines, but which would increase capacity by generating electricity for about a third more homes.
Those of us who really care about the Vale's environment and who are concerned about the damage done by burning fossil fuels or using nuclear power have supported the plans.
You can support them too by writing to the Director of Environmental Services, Vale of the White Horse District Council, Abbey House, Abingdon OX14 3JN, quoting reference WAT/1611/12.
