Stunned Jon Callard admitted for the first time that Bath's form was giving cause for concern as they slipped to their seventh league defeat of the season at Loftus Road.
The head coach's relaxed exterior finally gave way to a frown as he reflected on another disastrous day for his side.
With the halfway point of the Premiership season approaching with the visit of Gloucester to the Rec on Saturday, the former England full-back conceded that Bath had to regain their form quickly or risk being dragged into a battle against the drop.
"I suppose if you look at it after this defeat, it probably is a concern,'' admitted Callard. "More so now than it was two weeks ago or even last week.
"Our first objective now is to make sure we play some rugby.''
But on the ever-growing threat of a relegation dogfight, the Bath chief was in bullish mood.
"We're not even contemplating that,'' he insisted. "We know we have got to start putting some confidence and rhythm into our game.''
On the Bath performance, he added: "I don't look for excuses there are no excuses, full stop.
"The fundamentals were missing out there. It was very poor out there and it's up to the coaching staff and myself to make the players do those basics right.''
Bath Rugby Supporters Club will be holding a dedicated day to Mike Catt at the home Premiership match against Gloucester on December 8.
The group have been raffling a jersey per game this season with a limited amount of 500 tickets raising £3,000 so far for the club's community programme.
They will be offering unlimited tickets for Catt's signed jersey and there is a special runners-up prize an away jersey signed by all four of Bath's British Lions from the Australia tour.
