CHILDREN with disabilities in Swindon can splash around, have fun and learn to swim thanks to the Otters group and Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool.

The Otters is a group of children with disabilities which meets each fortnight at the Jeffries Avenue pool.

They are another organisation eager to benefit from our Christmas Toy Appeal, run in conjunction with Swindon Rotary Club.

The group is run by June Clifford and Margaret Tyson with the help of parents and pool staff.

Mrs Clifford said: "To see youngsters come to the group clinging to their parent's necks and then within four or five weeks jump straight in is fantastic.

"In the group there are children with a broad range of disabilities cerebral palsy, heart problems, deafness, muscular problems.

"The group gives children a chance to make friends, have great fun and exercise in the water. Parents can join in as well if they want."

The Otters recently took part in a sponsored swim and raised more than £700 for the hydrotherapy pool.

Rebecca Lines, aged seven, has been going to the Otters for about six months. She said: "I really like coming here. It's like a great big warm bath. I swam 19 lengths in the sponsored swim."
