TWO people were still in a serious condition in hospital today after a shooting in Chippenham which left one man dead.
The dead man was named locally as Charlie Singh, a member of a large Asian family who lived at the house in The Causeway.
Police were called to the scene around 5.30am on Monday, and quickly cordoned off the road.
A 51-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, while another man and a woman were taken to hospital in Bath suffering from gunshot wounds.
The 38-year-old woman was this morning described as very critically ill and the man, 42, seriously ill after being moved to a hospital in Bristol.
Police confirmed all the victims come from the same family. It is believed that as many as 12 people lived together in the same terraced house.
Det Chief Supt Gary Chatfield, head of Wiltshire CID, confirmed at a press conference they were not looking for anyone else in relation to this shooting.
He said: "It's very tragic that this has occurred. It's early days and we are trying to piece together the picture ourselves."
Meanwhile, locals reacted with horror to the incident.
Karen Groves, owner of Collectors' Corner, said she believed the dead man was the father of the family.
Shop owner Amelia Hanratty said: "We're shocked and surprised they're a very friendly family."
She said: "They are a very friendly family. They used to come in my shop all the time buying videos.
They were always coming and going. They were quite popular in the community."
Gabby Brooks, manageress of the nearby Amelia Classics bridalwear shop, said: "It's a mood of shock. It's a very close-knit community up here and everyone is surprised."
Yvonne Hulbert, whose daughter Jane Harris runs the Cut'n'Curl hairdressing salon, said: "Jane has had the salon for 29 years and they have been here as long as she has.
"We find them an absolutely wonderful family. They are always pleasant to speak to."
Bob Rudd lived next door to the family for many years before they moved to another house nearby.
He said: "They've lived in the street all the time we've been here. Whenever you saw them you always got a lovely smile and a how are you?'
"On the face of it they are a gentle, quiet family who keep themselves to themselves.
"But we've been neighbours for a long time and we send each other Christmas cards.
"I'm incredibly sad and sorry about what's happened."
