PET owners are being urged to give their pets chips for Christmas. But the recommendation by the RSPCA to Swindon people is nothing to do with food.
Instead, the charity wants people to have microchips painlessly inserted in the scruffs of their animals' necks.
The chips identify and safeguard animals for their rest of their lives.
If an animal is found after straying or being stolen, it is a simple matter for a vet to scan the chip and reunite the creature and its owner.
More than 70 people went to a half price microchipping session at Stratton Youth Centre.
Volunteers from the Wiltshire North, Swindon and District branch of the RSPCA were delighted by the turnout for the £12.50-a-time session.
The RSPCA has also had success with similar events across Wiltshire this year.
The chips used are no bigger than a grain of cooked rice, and the information is then entered on a national database.
