MR MORGAN castigates the borough council (November 26) for the current non-use and mothballing of the old borough railway museum.
I too want this building to be used but I realise that in these times of financial restraint the borough cannot afford to spend more money on non-revenue raising activity (white elephants?) after the example of Steam requiring more funding than initially envisaged.
In fact, this opinion of mothballing for future use should have been used when the borough was offered the Mechanics Institute for £1 plus the restoration expenses.
At the time, the takeover of the old GWR swimming baths and health centre was the better option, but acquisition would have stopped the building getting into the state it has under its current owner and allowed civic use of the building in due course.
