FIT-again Sol Davis is looking to push forward and force his way back into Roy Evans' plans.

Injuries to both groins have badly disrupted the defender's campaign so far and he has had to watch Paul Edwards and David Duke look more than comfortable at left wing-back.

But after a five-minute run-out at Wigan on Saturday, Davis was expected to get 90 minutes for the reserves this afternoon.

He said: "It has been frustrating. I had just got the left groin sorted when the right one went at West Brom in the Worthington Cup.

"I had to rest it for a few weeks before getting back into training.

"But I'm pleased to be back and I'm just hoping there'll be no more problems."

For the past couple of seasons, Davis has been a largely automatic choice at left back but he knows a stronger Town squad means no-one has a divine right to selection.

He said: "You can't expect to walk straight back into the side. But hopefully it gives the gaffer another option."

Davis has a sharper defensive edge to his game but knows Messrs Duke and Edwards enjoy the attacking aspect of the wing-back role.

He said: "If the gaffer uses the wing-back system then you have to get forward. That's something I'll be working on. You should always be looking to improve."

Assistant boss Malcolm Crosby led the reserves for the game with Barnet this afternoon.

Crozza agrees that Davis has the potential to be a bigger threat in the final third of the field.

He said: "To my mind, Sol was in the best form I'd seen him in before he got injured at West Brom.

"I think we've missed him. He is a real asset for the club and has a lot of experience for someone so young.

"He is quick, a tough tackler and all I would say is perhaps he needs to show a touch more belief going forward."

Crosby was anxious to put the reserves back on the winning track and was expected to put out a strong side against the Bees, with Davis, Bobby Howe, Bertie Brayley, Paul Edwards and Paul McAreavey all expected to feature.

Town's reserves are second from bottom in the Avon Insurance Combination with just one win from 10 games.

Town's under 18 side take on West Brom at the Hawthorns in the Midlands Youth Cup third round tonight (7pm).
