WILTSHIRE Schools have progressed into the next round of the English Under 19 Counties Cup, gaining a comfortable 3-1 win over Cornwall at Truro.

The Wiltshire team, made up entirely of players from New College Swindon, started slowly and found the going hard on a soft Cornish pitch. Cornwall took the lead but the visitors levelled soon after through Liam Thompson.

He received the ball with his back to goal, turned and hit a crisp shot into the net.

Just a minute later and Adi Adams picked up a ball midway in the Cornwall half. Being closed down from behind and with the keeper charging towards him, he calmly clipped the ball into an empty net to give Wiltshire a 2-1 half-time lead.

The Wiltshire team, well marshalled by captain Richard Knox, were a much livelier unit in the second half and despite the home side striving for the equaliser, they eventually put the game beyond doubt.

Thompson collected a free-kick by Jones and moved to the edge of the box before hitting the top corner with a clinical finish.

Their reward is a home game against Hampshire next Thursday, December 13 at Swindon Supermarine's Hunts Copse ground at South Marston (7.30pm).

New College were today facing Trowbridge College in the Wiltshire Colleges Cup final at Ballards Ash, Wootton Bassett (2pm).

n New College duo Adi Adams and Dan Allen have been selected for the English Under 18 Schools' Football Academy trials at Lilleshall.

Following a successful ESFA summer coaching course at Keele University, the two have moved through this season's programme, including South West trials and a match against South East schools.
