THE elderly and vulnerable in Swindon are to receive a special card this Christmas from the police.
As part of a crime prevention initiative called Operation Snowflake, Wiltshire Police hope to provide some fundamental tips on how to prevent burglaries and theft.
It is supported by Wiltshire police, Neigh-bourhood Watch, the Community Partnership, Victim Support and Age Concern.
The card contains useful hints for house and personal safety and useful contact details. More than 15,000 are to be distributed throughout Wiltshire.
Sally Rosenegk, a marketing assistant for Wiltshire Police, said: "Crime prevention is an issue that needs to be remembered all year round.
"But particularly at Christmas, when we have things like presents in the house."
She hopes the card will be of practical use to householders.
She said: "It is an information and advice card that hopefully people will keep throughout the year.
"It includes tips such as before you answer your front door, always make sure your back door is locked so that people can't gain entry."
The cards will be available in Swindon at the Central and Westlea police stations.
Age Concern will also be distributing the cards.
