CHIPPENHAM Town are hoping to offer free admission to all supporters when they replay their top of the league clash with local rivals Clevedon Town at Hardenhuish Park on January 12.

The derby match was abandoned after 23 minutes last Wednesday night due to floodlight failure with Chippenham leading 1-0 thanks to a sixth minute Simon Charity goal.

More than 600 people, Chippenham's biggest crowd of the season, were at the game. The Bluebirds hope to reach an agreement with both Dr Martens League and Clevedon officials over the issue later this week.

Chairman Malcolm Lyus said: "We want to put it on for nothing. We have proposed to pay Clevedon's travelling expenses, which is only fair, as long as they let us make it free for all spectators.

"There was a fantastic atmosphere on Wednesday night and it was worth a goal start for us. "

The club will not be fined by the league but face a hefty bill from the Southern Electricity Board after one of the three phasers on the circuit driving the floodlights was found to be overloaded.

Said Lyus: "It was an act of God. It will probably cost us a few hundred quid."

The Bluebirds' league game at Rocester on Saturday was called off at 10.30am due to a waterlogged pitch.

The match has now been put back to its original date of January 5, while Chippenham's Wiltshire Premier Shield quarter final with Melksham Town has been scheduled for Wednesday January 9.
