A 19-YEAR-OLD Malmesbury man suffered a fractured left ankle following a road rage argument with another driver at Cross Hayes last Wednesday.
A man in his 40s, who was driving a Peugeot 309, who was also from Malmesbury, has been placed on police bail pending further enquiries.
The argument happened at 12.10pm when the Peugeot driver was attempting to turn right out of Cross Hayes, into St Dennis Road.
The 19-year-old man was driving a Volkswagen camper van.
He was stuck in traffic because of roadworks at the top end of the High Street.
The Peugeot driver wanted to turn out of Cross Hayes but his path was blocked by the camper van.
PC Martin Alvis of Malmesbury Police said traffic was particularly heavy because of the roadworks.
"An argument ensued between the two drivers. In the course of the argument the 19-year-old fell to the floor and fractured his ankle," he said.
"It happened by the telephone box, by the junction of the Cross Hayes."
PC Alvis said the man was taken to Malmesbury Community Hospital and was then transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon.
"His foot has been set in plaster but it has had to be reset and he may require surgery."
PC Alvis added that police are keen to speak to a man who pulled the two men apart during the argument.
Anyone with information on the incident should call Malmesbury Police on (01666) 822222.
