Crowds thronged Wootton Bassett town centre on Friday for a festive start to the Christmas season.
A community carol service in Borough Fields square was led by representatives of various local churches.
A stilt walker, fire eater, juggler, choirs, bands and other groups provided entertainment galore.
The Youth Council organised a grotto at the library, where children queued to visit Father Christmas.
Wootton Bassett Art Society staged an exhibition of more than 100 paintings, many of which were for sale.
There were children's fairground rides, sideshows, charity stalls and competitions in the High Street and many shops stayed open late.
Decorated windows and festive fancy dress enhanced the colourful scene. Outside the flood-lit parish church, Father Christmas introduced performances by handbell ringers and the junior choir of St Bartholomew's School.
The Mayor and Mayoress, Percy and Sally Miles, in Victorian costume, were impressed with the wonderful efforts made by so many people.
"The town's really buzzing, it's brilliant," said Mr Miles.
