WOOTTON Bassett were outplayed by the hosts as they went down to a heavy defeat at the hands of Pegasus Juniors on Saturday 1 December.
The writing was on the wall as early as the second minute when Lee Sharpe was robbed after receiving the ball from goalkeeper Rich Stevens. Fortunately for the visitors, home striker Leigh Harris was equally as generous and missed the golden chance.
Pegasus hit the post after 11 minutes as they continued to press, while at the other end Vaughan shot over following a rare Bassett raid.
The home side took the lead on 23 minutes when Matt Gray's cross gave the unmarked Paul Mallender the simplest of tasks to score. Their lead was doubled 11 minutes later when Mark Davis finished off a fine right wing move.
Harris added his name to the scoresheet before the interval when he connected with a Steve Abbey free kick and bagged a second on 57 minutes following a cross from Daniel Sobicinski.
Bassett enjoyed some late possession and home goalkeeper Andrew Watkins had to be alert to pull off a fine save from Lamont. At the other end, Stevens was twice on hand to prevent Pegasus from extending their four-goal lead.
Fairford Town completed a league and cup double over Southall Town when they beat the home side 3-2 in the second round of the Challenge Cup.
Shrivenham's recent good run came to a halt when they were beaten 5-2 at home by Ross Town.
Malmesbury Vics lost 3-1 at Old Woodstock Town in the Supplementary Cup.
