DEVIZES based Youth Action Wiltshire paid tribute to youth club members and volunteer leaders who have done most to help the youth of the county at its annual meeting in the Corn Exchange last week.
The organisation's president, the Marquis of Lansdowne, presented cups and trophies to clubs and individuals who received the awards.
Alan Wells, leader of Enford Youth Club, near Pewsey, received the President's Cup in recognition of his dedicated youth club and community work.
The Shak Youth Club of Pewsey was presented with the Chairman's Cup for its ongoing commitment to young people in the Pewsey area while Chippenham's Bridge Centre was awarded the Robert's Trophy for its varied programme, sportsmanship and success in outside events.
Fovant Youth Club, near Salisbury, received the Phoenix Trophy for raising money to repair and reopen its club, which has now more than 40 members.
Adult youth leaders Margaret Spooner, of Hindon Junior Youth Club, and Henry Crabbe of Maiden Bradley received the National Association of Clubs for Young People (NAYCP) Keystone Silver Award for their 20 years' voluntary service.
There was a special award for four volunteers who run two of the county's Young Carers groups. These are groups that provide support and advice to young people, some of them still at primary school, who care for someone close to them who is sick or disabled. The special award went to Martin Hill and Sarah Dymoke who run North Wiltshire Young Carers and Val Cragg and Dave Quigley of Kennet Young Carers.
Swindon student Ben Albone, 16, was presented with the Robbie's Endeavour Trophy. While still at school he helped Dorcan Youth Club and in the past two years has worked with members of Park Crew Special Needs Club.
The evening closed with dancing by four members of Worton Youth Club, senior section winners of the regional dance competition.
