HIGHWORTH Town turned the form book upside down for the second time in three days when they defeated fifth in the table Fairford Town on their own ground 1-0 in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Following their success over Brackley Town last weekend the Town looked to be up against it at Cinder Lane but a first half goal decided the game in the visitors favour.
On a heavy pitch both sides found it difficult to play football in the opening exchanges and neither keeper was forced to make any worthwhile saves.
However on the half hour Jon Reeves found room down the right and netted with a good effort from the edge of the box.
The goal sparked the home side into action and the visitors were forced to defend their lead until half-time.
Fairford pushed another man up front after the break but the visitors defence continued to stand firm with keeper Steve Hale only called upon to deal with a few crosses.
Fairford's top marksman Lee Stoddart failed to make any impression on the Highworth defence and was taken off midway through the half.
In a hectic last 10 minutes the home side threw everyone forward in search of the equaliser but the Highworth rearguard stood firm to register another three points and take them to just under midway in the table.
Highworth boss Chris Seagraves said: "The lads battled well and kept another clean sheet. We have now gone five games without defeat and are beginning to climb the table."
