CHILDREN who visited Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes were the first to take advantage of the new interactive exhibits.

More than 100 children and parents took advantage of the special open day organised by the museum to show off their new hands-on, interactive exhibits that brought the Government-designated collection to life for children of all ages.

Deputy curator Netty Rawlings said: "It was fantastic. We have never had so many families and everyone enjoyed themselves. Every gallery has at least one activity and all of them proved very popular.

"We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped on the day. Their cheerful assistance was greatly appreciated and without them the day would not have been nearly so successful."

Children were able to design their own mosaics and hear descriptions of what it was like to live in the Bronze Age.

Work at the museum will continue on developing interactives, funded by the DCMS Designation Challenge Fund and supported by Kennet District Council.

A further event is planned for the spring. The museum is now open regularly on Sundays from noon to 4pm, when admission is free.
