MICHAEL Braund, a central figure of Devizes PHAB Club for more than 24 years, was recognised nationally for his devotion to the organisation at a House of Commons reception last week.
Mr Braund received the Paul Hope trophy from former Minister for the disabled and vice-president of PHAB, Lord Morris of Manchester. The award carries with it a £1,000 bursary, which will go towards the funds of Devizes PHAB.
Mr Braund, who is himself registered disabled, has been recognised for his outstanding work and achievement in fulfilling PHAB's aims.
Devizes PHAB (physically handicapped and able-bodied) club had only six members when Mr Braund first became involved in 1977 but it now boasts a membership of more than 100 thanks to his hard work and dedication.
He has been responsible for helping to raise money for three minibuses with wheelchair access and the setting up a shopping bus for disabled people in the Devizes area.
Mr Braund said he was deeply honoured to receive the award. He said: "I knew Paul Hope. He was a great man and I would like to think I can achieve half as much as he did."
