John Rodney was found with crack cocaine worth more than £1,000 when police raided a flat in the David Murray John building, a jury has been told.

Rodney, 42, also had almost £1,000 in cash along with the drugs which he was trying to hide under the kitchen units when officers burst in, Swindon Crown Court heard.

Prosecuting, Alan Fuller said that Rodney also had electronic scales with traces of cocaine on them and small plastic food bags on him when he was arrested.

He said that the drugs, paraphernalia and money showed that Rodney was in possession of the drugs with intent to supply them.

However, when he was interviewed by police Rodney said that the crack cocaine recovered from the kitchen did not belong to him and denied having them when the police arrived.

The jury was told that the bag of drugs contained one large lump weighing 11.3g and nine further wraps to a total weight of 1.64g.

The jury was told that street deals of crack cocaine normally cost users £20 for a rock, which generally weighed about 0.2g.

Mr Fuller said that officers smashed in the front door on July 9, and had to shift a fridge used to barricade their entry.

PC John Cornelius told the jury he saw Rodney and three other men in the kitchen.

"He was crouched down on the floor trying to push items underneath the work surface. The plinths to the units weren't there.

"I grabbed him by the clothing at the back of his neck and pulled him up. I saw a cellophane package and Bank of England notes.

"They were on the floor where his hands had previously been I believe, trying to push items below the work surface. The items were in very very close proximity."

PC Cornelius said he recovered the package of drugs as well as £210 in £10 and £20 notes. The jury was told that when he was searched officers found more than £700 in his pockets.

Mr Fuller told the court that the scales and bags were recovered from another bag found in the town centre flat which Rodney accepted were his.

In interview he said he had gone to the premises to get drugs. He denied he was a dealer.
