A CAMPAIGN has been launched to attract new members to a wheelchair basketball club, thanks to a grant from the Co-op.
Swindon Kings Wheelchair Basketball Club has been given a £1,000 grant to raise awareness among disability groups and the local community to boost membership and revenue.
The money will be used to design, print and circulate leaf-lets and posters promoting the activities of the club.
There is a core of regular disabled attendees but more are needed to meet the aims of the club and to make it sustainable.
Gladys Barr, who helps run the club, said: "Several of our members have said they need literature to hand out to disabled people when they meet them.
"Now that the club is up and running we need to tell more people about it so that they can join in the fun, and secure the future of the club."
"I think it's the only disabled sport that's currently running in Swindon as a club.
"Joining us gives people the opportunity to have some fun, meet new friends and take part in competitions."
Swindon Kings was formed this January and meets every Saturday at the Haydon Centre between 11.30am and 12.30pm.
