SIX workers were sent to hospital after a spillage of noxious chemicals at a Swindon pharmaceutical plant.
The accident happened at the RP Scherer pharmaceutical factory in Blagrove and involved a spillage of pharmaceutical material in the manufacturing area.
Around 30 workers were evacuated from the plant of which six men were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for observation.
Company spokesman, Craig Cunningham, said that none of the men were injured and the hospital visit was just a precautionary measure.
The company said in a statement: "A spillage of pharmaceutical material occurred in the manufacturing area.
"Manufacturing was suspended while a clean-up took place.
"The safety of employees was assured by the evacuation of affected areas.
"We are continuing to monitor the situation with our employees."
Mr Cunnningham declined to say what the substance was for reasons of customer confidentiality.
But he confirmed that it was an irritant to the eyes, skin and respiratory system under certain conditions.
He said the clear-up was undertaken by a professional team wearing full protective clothing.
Production at the factory was resumed by late yesterday afternoon.
RP Scherer has been based in Swindon for nearly 20 years and has 250 workers.
The firm specialises in making soft capsules for pharmaceutical drugs.
