SCHOOL FOOTBALL: FOR THE first time ever the Wiltshire Schools FA held the county finals of the national six-a-side football festival in Warminster last Saturday.
Chris Bell, chairman of the Warminster Schools Football Association was asked to organise the finals and Highbury Boys offered the use of their ground.
Warminster schools Heytesbury and St John's competed in the final of the small schools competition.
Mr Bell said: "This was an excellent match which saw St John's score two early goals, but then Heytesbury fought back and finally won 3-2."
The main six-a-side competition was run as a league with five schools taking part. Chiseldon, Eldene and Wanborough from the north of the county competed with Warminster schools Minster and New Close.
In the south west Wiltshire competition Minster defeated New Close in the final. However, it was New Close who went on to win the overall competition as they won three out of their four matches.
Mr Bell said: "Both Warminster schools will represent Wiltshire in the next round of these national competitions.
"Last year, the national finals were at White Hart Lane and Villa Park before a Premiership match. This year's venues are not yet known."
