A patient who pushed a trolley filled with medical equipment at a nurse before assaulting two police officers could face a prison sentence.

Matthew Tee, 27, of Charlotte Square, admitted the three assaults at Trowbridge Hospital last month.

Trowbridge magistrates heard how Tee was taken in by ambulance because he was unable to stop his eyes from rolling.

Anna Humphries, prosecuting, said nurses tried to tell Tee he needed to make an appointment to see his GP for treatment but he kept demanding an ambulance.

Police were called to the hospital in Adcroft when Tee started to shout and swear at staff, including staff nurse Deborah Mayo.

Miss Humphries said: "The police were not there in time to stop him throwing a trolley into Mrs Mayo.

"She received injuries from being rammed in the legs with the trolley."

Police tried to restrain Tee but Miss Humphries said he launched into a violent struggle, kneeing one of the officers in the groin and stamping on a second officer's foot.

Alex Daymond, defending, said Tee became aggressive when nurses told him he had to wait to see his GP and pushed the trolley in frustration adding that it had not been aimed at the nurse deliberately.

When police tried to arrest him, Tee admitted stamping on a police officer's foot but said he only lashed out to break free and did not aim his knee at the second officer's groin.

Mr Daymond said: "It is perfectly possible that the groin injury happened during the melee and was not deliberate."

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report for the next hearing in Chippenham, on December 20.
