ROY EVANS has vowed to lead Town out against Hereford United and then sit down with the club's new board of directors.
The director of football told the Evening Advertiser that 'only the sack' would prevent him from carrying out his normal duties during tomorrow's FA Cup second round clash at the County Ground.
Evans said: "As far as I'm concerned, I'm still in charge of the playing side at this football club.
"I fully intend to get the lads in the right state of mind to take on Hereford United.
"What happens after that remains to be seen.I will need to take stock of the situation and talk to whoever is running this football club.
"But I imagine they need to sort themselves out and take stock as well.
"Unless the new people give me the push straight away then all my efforts have to go towards the Hereford match."
Although Evans remains tight-lipped about his medium to long term plans, he knows an early FA Cup exit will do little to raise spirits at the County Ground.
Although Hereford boast a German teacher and an electrician in their ranks, the Edgar Street outfit are anything but part-time.
He said: "Hereford's win over Wrexham in the first round should have set the alarm bells ringing.
"If we don't go out there and take the game to Hereford then we will pay the penalty.
"You only have to look at their cup history to know this match will be no walkover."
As for team selection, it is mixed news for the director of football.
He said: "Matty Hewlett is a real doubt. He received a knock on his knee a couple of weeks ago and it is still bothering him."
Evans will also have to do without Andy Gurney through suspension.
He said: "That's a blow because, aside from Razor, Gurns is probably the most experienced man we have in defence.
"But as I've said before, Adam Willis has come in when asked and done a great job."
On the positive side, Paul Edwards and Sol Davis are both back in contention for a start, as is Giuliano Grazioli.
Graz has missed the last three games with a groin injury but trained yesterday.
Evans said: "Having Graz back gives me another option up front and that's the sort of selection 'problem' that you want as a manager."
Town's youth team have been drawn away to Premiership side Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
A date for the match at Ewood Park has yet to be confirmed, although it will probably be in mid to late January.
