PAUL Edwards was delighted to open his Town account against Hereford United, but revealed the goal had not come as a surprise.
The 21-year-old caused havoc down the left flank and his stunning 53rd-minute goal provided Town with a timely equaliser.
He said: "It was about time I scored.
" As soon as I hit it I thought it was on its way in.
"It's funny, but I had a feeling that this would be the game where I scored. Don't ask me why, but sometimes you get an inkling before a match.
"I was glad that this one proved to be right."
Edwards said he would allow himself a brief moment to bask in FA Cup glory but he said he was hungry for more.
The former Manchester City youngster said: "I have to start scoring more consistently.
"I've always believed I can score goals and it's an area of my game I know I need to work on.
"Beating Hereford was very important.
"We all wanted to be in the hat for the third round and from a financial point of view it's very important for the club."
The 21-year-old admitted his goal had been important in lifting Town after a mediocre first half performance.
He said: "We came in at half time and the gaffer said we had to start getting tackles in and really wanting the game more.
"We played a lot better, had more possession and tucked away our chances.
"We knew it was going to be difficult. Take nothing away from Hereford. They were a decent side and they played pretty well.
"This is my first real FA Cup experience and I've enjoyed it so far. Let's just hope we can go a bit further."
Such is the youngster's confidence that he was hoping for Manchester United in round three.
He said: "The way it's going at Old Trafford at the moment, we'd have to fancy our chances."
Sadly, it was not to be. It's still Manchester, but Edwards will have to wait another round before such a tie becomes a possibility.
Edwards said: "The FA Cup is all about being right on the day and we know that on our day we are capable of giving anyone a game."
The winning ticket in Saturday's Evening Advertiser-sponsored 50-50 draw was number 733.
Swindon Town Youth went down 2-1 to Walsall in their Football League Youth Alliance Cup second-round encounter on Saturday.
