Many drug addicts end up on the streets.
Other homeless people are simply the victims of circumstance, through broken homes or an unhappy childhood.
But there is hope through the good work of the Threshold Housing Link.
The charity relies on the giving of time and money from the public.
And it says it is delighted with the £14,000 raised in a single night by the efforts of more than 70 people willing to sacrifice a night in bed for the experience of sleeping on the streets.
Congratulations to those who took part in the sleep-out.
They truly have done their bit to help others this Christmas.
