Railtrack stopped all trains after a severely depressed man told his mother he was going to climb up to the bridge over Bath Road in Chippenham, it has been revealed.
Police received a 999 call from the 37-year-old's mother just after 2am on Friday morning. Railtrack were immediately contacted to stop all trains.
They were not allowed through again until the man came down three hours later.
Normal services resumed after 5.20am, less than five hours before the Queen and Prince Philip were due to arrive at Chippenham Railway Station.
