ALEX Dawson is quite right in pointing out the problems of the cyclist.

We are now seeing more and more traffic jams, some cities are almost gridlocked at certain times of the day and the situation is worsening.

When roads are being constructed council planners and developers pay little or no regard to the needs of the pedestrian and cyclist.

Surely it is only good sense to encourage the use of the bicycle, and for health reasons promote walking, by giving walkers safe footpaths and walkways. We continue to use up the earth's valuable source of air when we sit in our motor cars waiting to move another 10 yards or so.

The answer must be to use our cars less and less and to improve on health by doing physical exercise such as walking and cycling.
