KASHMIRA Singh, the 42-year-old Chippenham man who was arrested on suspicion of murdering his older brother, Sawa Singh, 51, last Monday, has been told he is no longer under arrest after new evidence was produced.
But Wiltshire Police say detectives will be interviewing Mr Singh as soon as he is discharged from Bristol's Frenchay Hospital and he could be arrested on a different charge.
Mr Singh, of The Causeway, who is being treated for gunshot wounds, is expected to be discharged from hospital within a week. His wife, Diola, 38, who was shot in the groin, is also making steady progress after a number of operations at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
"Mr Singh is recovering well after a number of shot wounds to his chest and arms," said Det Chief Supt Gary Chatfield, who is leading the inquiry.
"Mrs Singh seems to be getting miraculously better and better after the huge operation she had. The long-term prognosis is that they will both survive," he said.
Mr Singh was arrested last Tuesday at his hospital bedside, on suspicion of murdering his older brother.
But two days later he was told by police he was no longer under arrest.
"This happened in the light of new evidence, both from the family and from hard evidence we have found in the house," said Det Chief Supt Chatfield.
"We will still want to question Mr Singh when he leaves hospital."
He said an incident room had been set up at Chippenham police station and a number of detectives were continuing to work on the case.
He refused to say whether police were continuing to treat the case as a murder inquiry, but were confident nobody else was involved.
Sawa Singh was found dead with gunshot wounds at his home in The Causeway in the early hours of Monday. A sawn-off pump-action shot gun was discovered at the scene.
