A DESIGN for the Co-op's new flagship supermarket in Amesbury has received an overwhelming thumbs-down from town councillors.
Plans for the superstore on the Redworth House site were put before Ames-bury Town Council last week and unanimously rejected as unsuitable.
Deputy mayor Cllr Neil Morrison described the design as 'ill-conceived', adding: "Although we desperately need something on this site, we don't need that sort of building."
Former mayor Cllr Vernon Smith said the Co-op had not taken on board any of the suggestions put forward when earlier plans had been submitted and the latest suggestions were not good enough.
He said: "The Co-op have said nothing about the one-stop-shop development or whether they will allow retail development in their existing store."
The council agreed to reject the plans and to urge the Co-op to rethink the design.
