IMPROVEMENTS to Oxford Road are almost complete and the one-way system that has given motorists a headache for weeks has finally ended.
Barriers preventing traffic leaving Swindon on the road were finally lifted this week.
And Swindon Council says only minor work is left to be done as the £1 million project comes to an end.
The roadworks, which were scheduled for 14 weeks, have ended on time.
They have involved the resurfacing of the road and a new cycleway being installed.
Extra improvements, such as new lights and kerbs, have been included to make the area look tidier.
Council spokeswoman Lynda Fleming said: "Work is almost finished.
"We have some work to do to finish resurfacing the cycle tracks and the installation and switching on of traffic lights is dependent on Thames Water finishing its work."
She said non-skid surfaces on approach to the traffic lights will be competed this week.
And there will be improvements to footpaths and a verge.
