WHEN Eileen and Peter Goodwin celebrate their diamond wedding they have asked friends and relatives not to buy them any gifts.
Instead they would like well-wishers to pledge money towards a children's charity for disabled youngsters.
The Covingham couple, both aged 80, made the gesture in honour of their great nephew, 10-year-old Danny Cooper.
Danny is confined to a wheelchair but enjoyed an adventure holiday courtesy of Kent-based charity Ochyd.
Peter said: "He got back and he just couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was.
"That's when we realised how special Ochyd must be and decided we wanted to help."
Peter and Eileen met in the spring on 1941 when they were both employed at Wills Tobacco factory in Colbourne Street.
They say love blossomed over a game of darts at the company social club.
Eileen said: "It was love at first sight for me, I just looked at him and I knew I would spend my life with him."
The couple married a year later on December 20 at Swindon Register Office.
They went on to have three sons and two daughters.
Eileen and Peter will celebrate their diamond-wedding anniversary with a party at the Moonrakers pub.
