ADDICT Mark Wilson, who moved to Bromham to escape his drug problems, has admitted possessing heroin.

Wilson, of Old Cottage House, Chittoe, Bromham, pleaded guilty to possession of 1.4g of heroin, worth £70, when he appeared before magistrates in Chippenham last Wednesday.

Sentencing has been adjourned until January 3 for reports, and Wilson has been released on unconditional bail.

Amanda Sawetz, prosecuting, said Wilson was arrested by police officers at Wiltshire College in Chippenham at 12.55pm on November 26.

He had been found using heroin in the men's toilets by the caretaker, who reported it to the college principal.

"Police searched Mr Wilson and found a number of wraps of silver baking foil," said Ms Sawetz. "In interview, he admitted it was heroin but said he had not had time to smoke it."

Ms Sawetz said a further foil wrap was also discovered on arrival at Chippenham police station.

Wilson told police he had bought two wraps from a dealer in Barnstaple.

"He heated the tin foil and inhaled the smoke," said Ms Sawetz.

Wilson was not represented by a solicitor. He said he had been addicted to heroin for seven years. He has a daughter in Barnstaple and said he returns to the town to see her but has never smoked heroin in front of her.

He said he moved from Barnstaple to Bromham to escape his addiction.

Wilson addressed magistrates and said: "Although I am addicted to heroin I do not commit crime to fund my habit and I am trying to get in to rehab."

He said he had met with Bath Area Drugs Advisory Service.
