CAMPAIGNERS packed the Avon Club in Bradford on Avon on Monday night, December 10, to thrash out concerns over road safety in Trowbridge Road.
County councillor Malcolm Hewson chaired the meeting, which aimed to find ways of improving safety on the roads.
Cllr Hewson said: "We formed a group of volunteers at the meeting whose first priority will be to organise a petition which will then go to the county council.
"I will also be writing a report based on the meeting on Monday night which will be given to the county council."
Around 60 people attended the meeting after 300 leaflets were dropped in the town.
Cllr Hewson said: "I was very surprised to see so many people there, but I was also very pleased.
"The meeting went very well and we have made a very good start on the road safety issue.
He added: "There's a very clear desire among residents to see a lower speed limit on Trowbridge Road in order to make the road safer."
The group of volunteers are expecting to meet up again in early January when they will organise the petition.
Cllr Hewson is also expecting to hold meetings about road safety on Bradford's Winsley Road and
Bath Road in the New Year and the councillor is thought to be writing to local schools and other governing bodies for their views on the issue.
