STAFF foiled a masked gunman wielding a long-barrelled rifle when he burst into a shop in Trowbridge on Tuesday night, December 11, demanding money.
The man entered the One Stop Shop in Eastbourne Road at 10.30pm and threatened staff.
Staff managed to raise the alarm and the man ran away empty-handed.
A police spokesman said: "We conducted a search of the area with the assistance of the police helicopter and dogs but unfortunately we could not find the man."
The gunman is described as a white male of stocky appearance who is 5ft 10ins.
He was wearing black trousers or jeans, a balaclava covering his face and a combat-style jacket.
The spokesman said: "We are advising people not to approach this man but if they know of his whereabouts they should contact Trowbridge police on (01225) 763101."
