YOUNG Swindon artist Megan Gibson had the shock of her life when comedian Bernie Clifton came to call on her and her classmates.
Megan, 12, from Old Shaw Lane, has won the Wyvern Theatre Pantomime Poster Design Competition for the third year running.
So Bernie rode in on his ostrich to Bradon Forest Secondary School, Purton, to present her with her prize.
"Megan is lovely and even though she has won for the last three years, she is not at all big headed and was really surprised,'' said Bernie, who is starring as Buttons in Cinderella which opens tomorrow.
Megan confided to the star that when she grew up she either wanted to be a dancer or an artist.
When Bernie burst into Class 7W asking for Cinderella, the pupils all pointed at Luke Brown who is appearing in the panto with the Tanwood dancers.
So when Bernie asked for Megan, she was completely speechless.
Jamie Walker, assistant marketing officer at the Wyvern, said: "Megan stood up and nearly burst into tears. She was in total shock and just stared at Bernie not really taking it in.''
The youngster comes from an artistic family as her mum, Sarah won the same competition in 1974, drawing Aladdin, and Megan's granddad was Henry Francome, one of the top saxophone players and band leaders in the south west.
There were more than 100 entries but Megan pipped them to the post with her design of Cinderella dancing with her prince and then all around in pencil crayon are the other items, slipper, pumpkin, magic wand etc.
"Her picture is fabulous. It has everything to do with Cinderella in there,'' said Jamie.
"She said she wanted to be a dancer or an artist and this proves it.''
Megan wins a framed copy of her drawing, a programme signed by all the cast, a family ticket to the pantomime and a food hamper from Sainsbury.
The runners-up get a free pass to a movie of their choice at the Wyvern throughout the next year.
Jamie said: "We are delighted at the number of entries and the high standard. Congratulations to everyone and very well done to Megan.''
Cinderella runs from Saturday, December 15 until January 12. Tickets are £12.50 and £13.50 from (01793) 524481.
