SCHOOLS in Swindon are being invited to bid for their share of more than £1 million.
The Government's New Opportunities Fund has allocated the money which runs to £1,363,000 to Swindon for its PE and sport programme
The Government says the programme has been devised to ensure that funding for new and modernised facilities leads to greater integration of and support for local strategies to improve PE and sport.
It also wants to integrate sport, education and health projects
Swindon Council is tasked with co-ordinating the bids and will be establishing a working group of interested partners to manage the process.
Councillor Gary Perkins, lead member for education and community, said: "This allocation from the New Opportun-ities Fund will, if the bids are successful, enable schools to take forward and enhance their current PE and sport programmes and develop new ones in the future. The community as a whole can benefit."
The deadline for the bids is April 22, 2002.
