ROY EVANS will put an end to the mounting speculation surrounding his future in the next seven days.
The club's director of football will focus on toppling Huddersfield Town tomorrow before deciding whether to embrace the new board or quit the County Ground.
Evans knows his position is the talk of the town and feels a speedy decision is in everybody's interests.
He said: "I would hope to be in a situation where I decide 'yes' or 'no' by the end of next week.
"I've had a meeting with the chairman and Bob Holt.
"They were pretty blunt about the financial situation and I know that it isn't a case of money being there to splash around.
"But there is still more talking to do and no conclusion has been reached."
Chairman Willie Carson has publicly stated that he wants Evans to stay but said the ball is very much in the director of football's court.
Evans is adamant that all the rumours about his role and the worry concerning the club's level of debt, will not damage preparations for the clash with Lou Macari's men.
He said: "They are another club in this division with the weight of expectation behind them.
"They had a bit of a bad spell but they've come back and put a decent run together.
"Huddersfield have some experience in their squad and we know we will have to be at them from the start.
"I also saw that they got a heavy beating in the FA Cup last week.
" I'm sure our lads don't need me to tell them that we don't want another QPR situation on our hands.
"The cup win over Hereford was obviously important but it's your league campaign that you're really judged on at the end of the season."
Evans is likely to start with the same side that defeated the Bulls unless a groin injury to David Duke forces him to reshuffle. The manager reports, though, that the player "is coming along nicely".
Duke apart, it is largely good news, Sol Davis, Giuliano Grazioli and James Williams all coming through the reserves' midweek defeat at Luton.
A reminder to supporters that the Boxing Day clash with Bournemouth will kick off at 1pm.
