Thomas Bromley of Seriously Ill for Medical Research, accuses the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) of not showing any consideration for the right of seriously ill patients.
His accusation is both wrong and insulting, and reveals just how far Mr Bromley has missed the point about anti-vivisectionism. Anti-vivisectionists such as myself are not opposed to medical progress, but we don't believe in selling the public the lie that "animal experiments save lives". Our research should instead be based on biologically relevant non-animal techniques of the 21st century and not the antiquated assumption that test results from one species can be safely applied to another.
Mr Bromley accuses me of having "amnesia" for neglecting to mention the millions of animals slaughtered each year for human consumption. The reason is quite simply that I am a focused, single-issue anti-vivisection campaigner. However, I haven't eaten meat since I was 10 years old, and have been vegan for the last 12 years. So Mr Bromley, I am absolutely consistent in my argument.

Campaign director BUAV
