CHIPPENHAM'S Hardenhuish School have become the Year 8 Dorest & Wiltshire Champions for 2001 after beat ing close neighbours Sheldon School in the final.
The road to the cup started with a home game against Ridgeway School and the team found themselves under pressure on their own tryline straight from the whistle.
Early nerves were relieved when John Pomfret burst through to score the first try of the game. This seemed to wake the team up and they eventually ran out easy 64-7 winners.
The second round took them to Daunstseys and again, the Hardenhuish forwards made a slow start but after from great forward play from Dave Rea, tackling and rucking, the rest followed suit and moved up a gear.
PJ Rawson scored at will on the way to a 46-0 victory.
That win gave the team a home semi-final against Bishop Wordsworth and despite facing a strong set of forwards, the Chippenham lads put in a solid and determined display.
Aided by some strong running from Whitehead, Pomfret and Rawson in the backs, Hardenhuish went on to win at a canter 42-0.
