WHEN Liden Primary School moved to a new building in September, headteacher Paul Kohn was anxious that no unwanted equipment would go to waste.
After consulting schools in the Swindon area to see what they wanted, he came up with the novel idea of packing up items like chairs and tables and sending them to schools in Uganda, one of the world's poorest countries.
The container belongs to the charity All Nations Christian Care, which will supervise its shipping to Africa next week.
Liden Primary School in Liden Drive has donated 150 chairs and 50 tables as well as books, storage trays and school books. The container is also taking other donations from around the country which have included medical supplies and water filters.
Equipment from the container will be used to help set up a hospital in the Ugandan town of Lira and provide vital supplies for schools in the surrounding area.
Mr Kohn said: "I hate waste and there are lots of people now who will benefit from Liden's good fortune. We hope to keep in contact with the Ugandan schools the equipment is going to, which will hopeful help widen our children's horizons."
