AVEBURY: A neighbour alerted police after an 80-year-old woman was spotted driving off in a car with two strangers. Sgt Martin Schorah, from Wiltshire Police, explained that two men in their early 20s had visited the home of the Avebury pensioner and offered to do some work on her house.
They were then spotted by a neighbour at about 12.30pm driving the woman to a nearby post office to withdraw money.
The neighbour dialled 999 and two officers from Swindon CID were at the woman's home when the two men drove her back.
Sgt Schorah said the woman did not withdraw any money from the post office. The two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted deception and were being interviewed yesterday afternoon at Swindon Police Station.
