THE LAWN Community Association has opened the doors of its new premises for the first time.

The association is moving into the former Gamekeeper pub in Windsor Avenue and held a public viewing at the weekend.

Residents have campaigned for a centre for the last 30 years.

Community association spokesman Frank Richards said: "This marks the culmination of years of work and much hope and expectation by residents.

"There are many residents, councillors and officers without whose help and support the project would not have been completed even now."

The centre will be open for business from January 2 and to celebrate the new premises the association will hold an official opening ceremony and 'thank you' function with invited guests early in 2002.

The group received £100 towards the cost of the ceremony from the Area Panel (South).

There will be another opportunity to visit the centre on Saturday between 9am and midday.
