PUPILS from Churchfields School tackled South Swindon MP Julia Drown about a range of issues including drugs, Afghanistan and Sarah's Law.

Ms Drown was visiting the school to answer questions from pupils and draw attention to the work of an MP.

The questions were put to Ms Drown by members of the school council on behalf of pupils from all years.

Questions included:

Will Parliament bring in Sarah's Law?

What will be the outcome of the Afghanistan crisis?

What can be done to clean up parks in Swindon and get rid of drug users' needles?

Why is greenbelt land being used for development when there are other sites which have already been developed available?

In answer to the last question, Ms Drown said she had fought to prevent the Front Garden being developed.

"I fought it all the way and it went all the way to the High Court. I totally agree that we should build on previously developed sites first.

"On the issue of the Front Garden there are still some more steps to be gone through."

Hetal Patel, 14, said she thought tackling drugs was a major problem and needed to be addressed: "I think there should be a place where drug users can go and meet up and get support because they need someone to listen to them and reach out to them."

Luke Stacey, 12, said: "I think we need to improve our parks because none of them have proper rides."

Amar Jobanputra also voiced his concerns: "I think the sports provisions in town need to be sorted out."

Sarah Jones, 11, said: "I think there should be better and safer parks in Swindon.

"The park near where I live has got a very bad reputation and whenever I go there with my friends, there are always strange people hanging around and we just end up going home.

"It ruins our fun."
