TWELVE students from Commonweal School have received awards in a national maths competition.
Pupils from the Old Town school took part in the UK Senior Maths Challenge, a national competition aimed at pupils in the 16 to 18 age range.
Three students, Jonathan Titcombe from Year 11, and Daniel Tredget and Helen Brett from Year 10, received a silver award.
Two younger pupils from Year Nine, Edith Glennie, and Ross Cullen, also received a Bronze award in the competition.
Seven other Year 11 pupils received Bronze awards.
Head of Maths at Commonweal School, David Jellis, was delighted with the results.
He said: "The results are exceptional and very pleasing.
"It is mostly about using common sense and thinking under pressure, but all the pupils put in extra effort."
"The younger pupils did exceptionally well, especially as they are aged 13 to 14 and entering a competition for 16 to 18 year olds."
The challenge was organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) at the University of Leeds.
More than 50,000 pupils from 1,300 schools took part in the challenge.
